While the United States graduates roughly 60,000 engineers from college each year, and both India and China are reported to each graduate 300,000 engineers a year, many pundits claim that the United States will soon lose its competitive edge in manufacturing, innovation and the creation of new products and new ideas that in the past have turned the country into the globe’s largest and most profitable economy and the engineering juggernaut of the world.
A student, with the math, science and technical skills, necessary to be successful as an engineer is often faced with the problem of finding the best engineering school that is relatively inexpensive, that is close to home and that will offer a first class education in engineering.I found some more information here.
Most state colleges, formerly known as land-grant colleges, have schools of engineering and science that are relatively low-cost compared to private, or Ivy league schools and many of the schools offer first class engineering programs that will help a student launch a successful career in engineering.
Probably, a good starting point in selecting a low-cost, high-quality, engineering school that is close to home is by reading the 2011 engineering school ranking published annually by U.S. News and World Report.
